This book is the story of the famous dolls created by the french magazine Modes & Travaux. It starts in 1919 when Edouard Boucherit created with his wife RenĂ©e in Paris, this new women’s magazine whose 1st print will appear in November. After the Great War, the newspaper will contribute to help women to become a perfect hostesses and in this way follows closely fashion trend. From 1951, Modes & Travaux created a page for girls. This magazine proposed dress dolls, but also clothes as well as accessories such as shoes, socks, handbags, etc… With the industrial growth of toy, the magazine will create in March 1951 the first doll (Nobel manufacturing), Françoise. In August 1954, she will announce to her young readers the ” birth of a younger brother “: Michel. And in 1958, will be proposed its third doll : Marie-Françoise. In 1963, the enterprise PetitCollin will acquire the Nobel brand to manufacture dolls M*T until now. The last one will be Emilie, in 1986. Dolls M*T are always made in France (Etain) by Petitcollin. The 3 authors are found of dolls : Annick Buchy is President of the West Dolls Club association. Elyane Jamard-Lacroix, former physiotherapist, is a General Secretary of the CERP today. Both are specialists of the dolls from Modes & Travaux.

About the author

Born in Paris in 1946, Elisabeth Chauveau, hold a Master's degree of History and a Bachelor of Art History. Completely fond of dolls since her childhood, she is the author of numerous articles and reference books on the subject. She was several times President of the center of studies and researches on dolls (CERP).
